            The Lieutenant Governor in Council makes the Meat Inspection Amendment Regulation set out in the attached Appendix.

Meat Inspection Act


1   The Meat Inspection Regulation (AR 42/2003) is amended by this Regulation.


2   Section 15.1 is repealed and the following is substituted:


15.1   An operator of a meat facility shall, in respect of the operation of the meat facility,

                               (a)    comply with and ensure compliance with

                                        (i)    the requirements of the Meat Facility Standards published by the Minister as amended or replaced from time to time, and

                                      (ii)    the requirements of the legislation,


                              (b)    ensure that all food handling is done in a manner that makes the meat safe to eat.


3   Section 36(1) is amended

                               (a)    by adding “or there is a risk to food safety or animal welfare” after “legislation is contravened”;

                               (b)    in clause (c) by adding “or risk to food safety or animal welfare, as the case may be” after “non‑compliance”.


4   Section 56 is amended by striking out “the Director” and substituting “an inspector”.


5   Section 58.1(1) is amended by adding the following after clause (b):

                           (b.1)    removing visible contamination by trimming,

6   Section 80 is amended by striking out “August 1, 2014” and substituting “August 1, 2017”.
