WHEREAS the occurrence of wildfires within the County of Athabasca No. 12 in October 2008 caused extraordinary fire suppression and emergency response costs to the municipality;

WHEREAS the extraordinary fire suppression and emergency response costs caused by the wildfires have reached such a point that it constitutes a disaster;

THEREFORE the Lieutenant Governor in Council declares that a disaster exists in the nature of extraordinary fire suppression and emergency response costs resulting from these wildfires with respect to the 2008-09 fiscal year.
