ALBERTA REGULATION 159/98
Protection for Persons in Care Act
PROTECTION FOR PERSONS IN CARE REGULATION
1 The following Acts are prescribed for the purpose of section 2(4) of the Act:
(a) Chiropractic Profession Act;
(b) Dental Disciplines Act;
(c) Dental Mechanics Act;
(d) Dental Profession Act;
(e) Health Disciplines Act;
(f) Medical Profession Act;
(g) Nursing Profession Act;
(h) Occupational Therapy Profession Act;
(i) Opticians Act;
(j) Optometry Profession Act;
(k) Pharmaceutical Profession Act;
(l) Physical Therapy Profession Act;
(m) Podiatry Act;
(n) Psychology Profession Act;
(o) Registered Dietitians Act;
(p) Social Work Profession Act.
1.1(1) The following institutions and organizations are designated as agencies for the purpose of section 1(b)(v) of the Protection for Persons in Care Act if the institution or organization is operated by the Government of Alberta or receives part or all of its operating funds, directly or indirectly, from the Government of Alberta:
(a) a place of care for persons who are aged or infirm or who require special care;
(b) a hostel or other establishment operated to provide accommodation and maintenance for not less than 4 unemployed or indigent persons;
(c) an emergency shelter;
(d) a residential alcohol and drug abuse treatment centre;
(e) a group home or shelter for physically or mentally handicapped persons;
(f) a vocational rehabilitation and training centre for physically or mentally handicapped persons.
(2) Subsection (1) does not include the following institutions and organizations:
(a) Alberta Hospital Edmonton;
(b) Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury;
(c) Raymond Care Centre;
(d) Claresholm Centre for Mental Health and Addictions;
(e) a housing accommodation as defined in the Alberta Housing Act;
(f) a correctional institution as defined in the Corrections Act.

1.2 For the purposes of an institution or organization referred to in section 1(c)(ii) of the Act, the appropriate Minister is the Minister.
Expiry
2 For the purpose of ensuring that this Regulation is reviewed for ongoing relevancy and necessity, with the option that it may be repassed in its present or an amended form following a review, this Regulation expires on November 30, 2010.
