The Act provides for the protection and conservation of wild animals in Alberta. It defines controls for hunting and trapping of wildlife and possession of wildlife and wildlife parts, as well as the sale, import and export of wildlife, controlled animals and endangered species.
Commercial activities such as guiding, buying fur, taxidermy, tanning and zoos are required to operate under licenses or permits. The Act and regulation includes many activities in relation to hunting, safety, commercial operators, protecting wildlife from disease outbreaks and dealing with wildlife damage to property. Wildlife sanctuaries and other special areas where wildlife are protected from the activities of people are also created under the Act.

Wildlife Regulation
|
The regulation supports the Wildlife Act in managing Alberta’s wildlife. It addresses: hunting, trapping, collection, and possession of wildlife, and adds protections for endangered animals; sale, import and export of wildlife, controlled animals (non-native animals that are regulated), and endangered species, and the possession of animals in captivity; identification and categorization of wildlife species and controlled animals; permits - many species of wildlife and all controlled possessed live animals require permits. Permits are required for the import, export, research, wildlife rehabilitation and falconry, and for commercial activities such as outfitting and guiding, buying fur, taxidermy, tanning and zoos; wildlife damage to property; and wildlife sanctuaries and other special areas where wildlife are protected from the activities of humans.
