"Police Act "

Police Act

This act mandates the Government of Alberta to ensure that adequate and effective policing is maintained in Alberta. It mandates the Minister of Justice and Solicitor General to administer the act and provides that police services and peace officers shall act under, the direction of the Minister, in matters concerning the administration of justice and enforcement of the law.

Exempted Areas Police Service Agreements Regulation

This regulation states that police commissions established under exempted areas policing agreements must follow the responsibilities and obligations for a commission under the Police Act and the Police Service Regulation. Areas, such as First Nations Reserves (which are under federal jurisdiction), are exempt in the sense that the Government of Alberta cannot pass legislation that specifically applies to First Nations policing.
