Livestock Industry Diversification Act

The Livestock Industry Diversification Act enables the licensing of diversified livestock farms. The Act defines diversified livestock animals and addresses permits, transportation off farm, and the operation of diversified livestock farms which includes prescribing inventory and other reports required by farm operators. The Act also enables regulations respecting the species of diversified livestock animals that are allowed or prohibited on farms. The offences and penalties for contravention of the Act are also documented.

Domestic Cervid Industry Regulation

The Domestic Cervid Industry Regulation, under the Livestock Industry Diversification Act, applies exclusively to domestic cervids (elk, moose, and deer). Domestic cervids that are farmed are distinct from cervids that are considered wildlife. The licensing process and import, export, and stray killing permitting processes are outlined. Registration procedures and identification methods of domestic cervids are outlined. Requirements are described for record retention of acquisition, disposition and transportation records. Specific provisions for removal and tagging of velvet antler are described. Damage liability and allowable capture expenses for stray domestic cervids are also set out in the Regulation.
